How to deal with sensitive teeth

Most of us have experienced sensitive teeth at one point or another and it can go from a minor annoyance to a big problem pretty quickly. It can be caused by periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay and exposure of roots at the gumline, aggressive toothbrushing and enamel wear. There are a number of remedies that can relieve sensitive teeth naturally.

Swap your toothbrush

Brushing your teeth is the best way to keep your teeth healthy, but using a hard-bristled toothbrush or a highly abrasive toothpaste can aggravate sensitive teeth. If you experience sensitive teeth, swap out your toothbrush for a softer product like Humble Brush Sensitive Bristles.

Swap toothpaste

Refrain from using toothpaste that contains harsh chemicals or irritating ingredients and switch to a natural toothpaste.

Avoid certain foods

If you are experiencing sensitivity in your teeth, there are some foods and drinks that you should avoid to not make the situation worse. Some of these include citrus fruits, ice creams, fizzy drinks, ice cubes in cold drinks, hot drinks and sour sweets. If you want to drink a fizzy drink, do so by drinking with a Bamboo Straw to limit the contact the drink has with your teeth. Another tip from us is to not brush your teeth directly after eating or drinking acidic foods as the acid softens your teeth enamel and makes your teeth even more sensitive.

Visit your dentist

Suffering from sensitive teeth might be related to grinding your teeth at night. A trip to the dentist will help you identify if teeth grinding can be one of the causes of your teeth sensitivity. To help prevent this, the dentist will provide you with a mouth guard that will act as a protective bite piece to protect the enamel.
